Abstract :
The paper presents a performance analysis of a random access (RA) protocol that is in use in a TDMA multi-access mobile communication channel. The channel is shared by mixed voice and data with general distribution. The work considers a class of data that consists of a finite number of open sessions. Users contend in the uplink using an RA protocol based on S-ALOHA and contention takes places every NC frames. We start with a general model description of a voice and data subsystem in which admission protocols are explained. An analytical framework is derived. An algorithm is then formulated that complements the analytical framework. The analysis is based on equilibrium-point-analysis (EPA) and is novel and topical. Numerical results are corroborated using a simulation in OPNET.
