Abstract :
Describes the W89K, a 32-bit RISC embedded controller implemented by Winbond Electronics based on the PA-RISC architecture. This controller is designed to optimize the cost and performance of the system. An 80486DX-like bus interface was chosen to take advantage of low-cost multiple source logic chip sets for system design flexibility. Careful design trade-offs were made to achieve 66 MHz operating frequency with a 480/spl times/320 mil/sup 2/ die size. This paper describes the pipeline design, performance characteristics and design methodology of the W89K.<>
