Abstract :
With today´s pace of microprocessor development, it is very important to make trade-offs that result in fast time to market. As microprocessors get more complex, the verification effort grows exponentially. A structured approach to verification that is comprehensive and portable to various implementations is the key element to provide bug-free designs while maintaining a fast time to market. Also, finding the right balance between directed and non-directed testing as well as balancing various resources (engineers, computers, finances) is extremely important. This paper addresses the methodology that was defined and followed during the R4200 verification and various follow-on projects at MTI.<>
