  • Abstract
    This paper proposes a novel real time lightning detection and location method. In the last decade, lightning location systems were based on electromagnetic radiation pulse and had high cost. Therefore, we develop a new approach which uses light and infrasound of lightning to accomplish the function of detection and location. Lightning location based on light and thunder, with the assistance of computer, becomes available because of the development of light activated element and the strong power of virtual instrument. The operating principles and software design of the lightning detection are given in this paper. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
