Abstract :
This paper describes how, for engineers, the Engineering Council´s proposals for Standards and Routes to Registration (SARTOR 1996) envisage four different qualifications: an HND; an ordinary BEng degree leading to Incorporated Engineer status; and a BEng (Hons) and an MEng, both of which lead, after different additional criteria have been met, to Chartered status. In the framework, the HND would be awarded at H2 level, the ordinary BEng at H3, the BEng (Hens) at H4 and the MEng, which would be re-titled Higher Honours, at H5
