Abstract :
British universities have a long and distinguished tradition of work in radar, probably the most spectacular example of which was Randall and Boot´s invention of the cavity magnetron at the University of Birmingham in 1940. Nowadays universities have an important role, both in research and education, and this situation is mirrored in other European countries. The paper reviews the status of university contributions to radar, both in the UK and elsewhere, and to consider how this may best develop in the future
