Abstract :
Different scenarios of cross-layer interference in W-CDMA frequency division duplex (FDD) mode (up/downlink) are studied to show the possibility of packet switched data transmission at hotspot base stations embedded in a macrocell network, when the same frequency band is used in both the macrocell and hotspot layers. It is shown that handing over macrocell users´ calls to a hotspot base station when stationary or slow moving macrocell mobile stations are close to the hotspot base station enhances the data throughput at the hotspot dramatically. System level simulations are carried out to highlight the impact of macrocell-hotspot handover on the hotspot performance of the downlink, in which the traffic is assumed to be asymmetric.
