Abstract :
The described work, carried out in the framework of the EC FP7 project eBADGE1, analyses the path toward the further integration of the Internal Electricity Market (IEM), an on-going process since the start of electricity market liberalization in Europe, by including the integration of the electricity balancing markets. According to the present draft text of the ENTSO-E grid code on electricity balancing, a phased approach will be promoted in order to foster cooperation amongst TSOs in various balancing areas. The mathematical formulation of the Target Model will be presented and two scenarios will be developed in order to evaluate possible benefits of a common balancing market, with reference to a region including Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
