Abstract :
A novel protection system, consisting of protection wires and arcing horns. against wire break in DC traction system had been developed and examined. However, this system had a problem that arc current is not maintained stably at an arcing horn. The authors improved this system to solve the problem by adopting gapless protection devices instead of arcing horns. Examination results on a field test prove that this improved system can attain the desired purpose.
