Abstract
We describe a shape memory alloy thin film actuator which presents a two-step actuation. The actuator holds a blood vessel securely by the first actuation, and allows continuous monitoring of thrombus formation after microsurgery. After monitoring, it releases the blood vessel easily by the second actuation and is removed without any additional surgical invasions. Basic properties of shape memory alloy thin films were investigated for secure actuation within the human body, and motion tests of the actuator were carried out.
