  • Abstract
    In the first workshop held at FIE 2005, we identified the elements of an engineering education that would promote social justice. After an identification of these elements, participants were challenged to identify how well their particular institution aligned with these components. The Ideal Final Result from TRIZ, a problem identification technique, was used to identify the fundamentals in a highly interactive format. The use of TRIZ provides for a visual representation of the results with typical examples provided below. The initial segment of the special session will be dedicated to describing the results. With the initial results as a foundation and with discussion on the elements of the TRIZ algorithm, the second segment of the special session will focus inwardly; that is, we shall examine how each of us contributes to the promotion of social justice as teachers, as practitioners and as scholars. We shall again explore first our understanding of what are the essential elements of promoting social justice as individual faculty members and subsequently identify how close each of us is to the envisioned "ideal final result"
