Abstract :
The paper describes, after a short historical review, the actual discussion of MO surge arresters standardization work. A critical review of the relevant IEC standards and results of research work initiated by Cigré WG A3.17 of SC A3, High Voltage Equipment, influenced the standardization work of IEC TC 37, Surge Arresters. The most important new type tests are briefly discussed.
