Abstract :
A new engineering technique has been devised to improve the planning and implementation of mobile-radio projects. A specially developed SYMBL computer program is used in conjunction with this technique, which comprises the following stages: • Application of digitized topographic data to compute HF and VHF propagation in various ways. • Collection of radio propagation data along predetermined roads. • Standardization of base station antenna mountings from antenna pattern measurements taken in situ using a helicopter. The two latter stages, which provide feedback for the first, will be analyzed in a later paper, the emphasis here being on the software application in stage one.
