Abstract
Although applications like transmission and sharing of multimedia are particularly attractive for many reasons, there are several factors, e.g. bandwidth, compression ratio or the important issue of unreliability of the transmission medium, that prohibit from gaining the most benefit of these applications. We describe in this paper a video codec for video transmission application. A resilient coding framework namely Multiple Description Coding (MDC) is used that guarantee improved quality video in lossy networks. An end-to-end optimization algorithm is also proposed to ensure good compression performance. Experimental evaluation in simulated network shows that the proposed codec achieves better reconstructed video quality compared to existing methods.
