Abstract :
Using the real-time and continuous lightning location data from World Wide Lightning Network (WWLLN) and other data, such as basic information about typhoon and related satellite data from China Meteorological Administration (CMA) to study the distribution and variation of lightning activity in typhoon Morakot. The outer rain band appeared the most lightning. In the period of tropical storm (TS) and strong tropical storm (STS), tropical cyclone (TC) structure changed and developed most fast, and a lot of lightning occurred in the area with TBB below 210 K. In the period of typhoon, we observed there was a better correspondence between the lightning occurring and the areas of the TBB range from 220 K to 230 K. Lightning occurred more actively in the areas with middle - level relative humidity ranged from 60 % to 80 %, and great value (relative humidity ≥ 90%) was not conducive to the charge processes.
