Abstract
The authors describe the impact of optoelectronics in the curricula of undergraduate courses in physics and engineering in Brazil as a consequence of the development of a home industry in this area. The present situation of the teaching of optics in universities is described, followed by an analysis of the main teaching resources. Finally, a scheme for a curriculum in this field is proposed
