Abstract
Multimedia services in the fixed network is no longer a topic for the future. Today different types of multimedia services (services including speech, video and data transmission) are introduced to the customer. These services will have different requirement on parameters such as bit rate, quality and delay. The introduction of these services in the fixed network will increase the demand on future cellular system to provide similar services. Supporting these new services in a cellular environment will require a radio interface that efficiently handles a mixture of services with different requirements. By using frequency division based on OFDM it is possible to support such services. An OFDM access protocol for high bit rates is proposed. The structure supports circuit switch data with variable bit rate and packet transmission over the same radio interface. The amount of resources used for circuit and packet can be adapted to the traffic situation by allocating different number of subcarriers for packet and circuit
