Abstract :
There is a recognized trend to extend the functionality of the optical plane beyond mere point-to point transmission of data. Enabling devices for optical networking are beginning to appear on the market. All-optical routing is the one technology that has to be developed and deployed to fully fulfil the promises of optical networking. The objective of this article is to set up the scene for a fruitful discussion on the subject of all-optical routing.
