Abstract :
Some kinds of level voltage of transmission lines and fittings are sometimes melted and broken by lightning strikes. Multiple impulse current tests simulating lightning strikes have been performed to obtain the melting and breaking characteristics of transmission lines and fittings. The tests have to be performed under the multiple impulse current and kinds of level voltage of transmission lines and fittings to clarify the melting and breaking characteristics of these. In this paper the calculations regarding the melting characteristics of these are performed considering the transferred heat and its area from the arc to the elements under the above-mentioned conditions. The melting characteristics of these are calculated with multiple impulse current of 1-200 kA considering the measured current of actual lightning. The calculation results of those melting duration depending on multiple impulse current show a good agreement with the experimental values obtained in multiple impulse tests.
