Abstract
This paper proposes a single stage PWM converter capable of interfacing ac loads with the utility grid. The converter presents the following basic features: generation of a controlled line frequency AC voltage, unity input power factor, high frequency line and load filter inductors. Its main advantage is the complete integration of a high power factor rectifier and an inverter stage, so that a compact converter with only four IGBTs and six diodes is obtained. By synchronizing the load side and line side controllers and by use devised modulation strategy, it is possible to achieve line current control over the whole line period. This paper present a detailed analysis of the topology, highlighting the design constraints, and propose a possible design procedure. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype are provided to validate the design procedure and illustrate the converter performance.
