Abstract :
A new electrode system for AC breakdown measurement was developed and the intrinsic AC breakdown characteristics of low-density polyethylene film were studied above room temperature. The AC breakdown mechanisms are discussed based on the dependence of the intrinsic AC breakdown strengths (Fb) on temperature, the rise rate, and the frequency of the applied electric field. It is concluded that the electronic breakdown process is dominant around the room temperature region and that the thermal breakdown process is dominant in the high-temperature region
