Abstract
In order to estimate the corona current magnitude on a Needle-Corona Electrode (NCE), the electric field close to its surface is calculated by using the method of moments (MoM). An actual NCE used in the lab was carefully modeled in order to perform numerical simulations. The MoM was used to simulate the background electric field under thunderstorm conditions and the NCE tip amplification. Different NCE heights were simulated to estimate the amplification of the electric field intensity.
