Abstract
This paper presents a new antenna design for passive RFID tags operating at super high frequency band. The proposed antenna includes a cross-array of five elements supporting beam-scanning range over two perpendicular directions. The beam-scanning capability allows the tag to communicate over longer distances without demanding extra power. A matching network between antenna elements and front-end circuitry has also been designed to eliminate phase shift. 3D full-wave electromagnetic simulation results using HFSS CAD tool indicate that the proposed antenna supports 10 dB gain and beam-scanning of more than 180° over two planes which can be exploited to provide location positioning services.
