Abstract :
This paper concentrates on the methods and benefits of using adjustable frequency drives (AFDs) on synchronizing applications (primarily medium voltage): the use of one drive for separately starting and synchronizing multiple motors to a constant frequency source. Identifying the potential for this type of solution, describing the various methods and configurations, explaining the benefits and limitations for different drive-motor configurations are discussed. A specific crude oil pipeline application is discussed in more detail, comparing expected benefits to results
