Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to provide support in specifying batteries and battery chargers for both DC and AC back-up power systems. This paper details pertinent information relating to: battery types; typical DC load recommendations; typical charger features; site and load conditions that affect battery maintenance and battery life; charger features which improve battery maintenance and battery life; requirements when parallel chargers and/or batteries are used; manual methods for monitoring batteries; and automatic battery monitoring
