  • Abstract
The characteristics of the VBR video traffic vary with the coding algorithm and the image content. In this paper we propose a bandwidth allocation method for the stationary VBR traffic based on prediction and report how to allocate the bandwidth and buffer space according to the requirements on (a) the loss rate and utilization or (b) the loss rate and delay upper limit. The study also analyzes under what condition, the requirements of loss rate, delay upper limit and utilization can be satisfied simultaneously. A priori information about the source characteristics is not required in advance for our model. All the control parameters can be obtained by on-line measurement of the mean of input bit rate and the prediction error
