Abstract
Cable terminations are still considered to be critical elements of medium voltage cable systems from a dielectric point of view. At the shield cut-back of a termination, an enhancement of the electric field strength is inevitable, which could lead to discharges in a first time and later on to breakdown or flashover. Stress control materials are therefore widely employed to obtain a better field distribution. However, there is still need for an improved understanding of the macroscopic properties of such materials, where numerical models can play a role. Therefore, field distribution measurements were carried out and the results were compared to the output of numerical and analytical models. The study allowed to monitor some crucial material and excitation parameters. However, the fit between experimental and numerical results was difficult to be made at this stage.
