Abstract :
Mobile Digital Terminals (MDT\´s) are finding increasing acceptance in a number of different application-areas in police, fire, ambulance, courier pick-up and delivery, electrical and gas utilities and taxis. MDT\´s improve the "dispatch" function with their message accuracy, speed of transmission and privacy. More significant operational advantages have been realized, however, when a driver can also have direct access to appropriate data bases. This paper discusses experiences gained in three different application areas - police, courier and mobile maintenance. Each of these has been motivated to adopt MDT\´s for different reasons, and have gained different kinds of benefits.
