Abstract :
The frequency of operation of interconnects in high speed rack and blade servers are consistently increasing. In this paper, a method to model and characterize interconnect loss and impedance in these high speed interfaces is proposed using response surface models. A response surface model (RSM) was constructed using the modeled data which was correlated against measurements to accurately predict interconnect characteristics. This approach guides design engineers to understand the sensitivity of various parameters on channel performance and statistical probability of occurrence of failures. In addition, electrical designer engineers would be able to make better design trade-offs and to avoid pit-falls on their high speed channel designs using the proposed approach.
