Abstract
The authors studied the breakdown of a thin film of an insulating material, polyphenylene oxide (PPO) between a plane and a small sphere, in different pressurized media (gas or liquid). The goal was to determine whether, under certain experimental conditions, the breakdown of the material itself is measured. The PPO film was coated with a self-healing Al electrode. Conduction and delay time to breakdown were measured to elucidate the breakdown mechanism
