Abstract :
In a multihop packet radio network, direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) may be employed as a means to tolerate secondary collisions. In this work, DS-SS is not employed freely but at a cost to the link transmission rate. An appropriate network model is developed that captures the effect that spread spectrum modulation-used to overcome secondary collisions-has on network throughput. Link schedules are developed for the DS-SS multihop packet radio network that allocate time slots and selectively assign processing gain to enhance network throughput. From this model, a new transmission scheduling problem is developed and its solution may lead to improved throughput performance for a multihop packet radio network
