Abstract
The paper discusses current status and future perspectives of analog design methodologies and techniques for mobile communications. In the first part we analyse a widely used transceiver architecture in order to identify the system specifications for the analog sections. The identified requirements reflect the technology needs and possible new circuit implementations. These issues are discussed with the necessary details. Then, new approaches for achieving high performance features, as needed by the emerging methodologies, massively based on digital signal processing, are considered. Examples of practical circuit design show possible ways on how to address the identified design problems
