Power system and market integration of DER, The EU-DEEP approach

This paper describes the methodology developed in EU-DEEP project to assess the integration of DER in the system. The methodology is based on a simple basic assumption. It states that the in depth analysis of system behaviour is the key permitting to identify market mechanisms that can really expose the value of DER. Taking account of the large diversity of situations in Europe, the approach starts from basic technical descriptions and defines a first best economical integration. This permits to discuss market structure and to set up market architectures leading to efficient solutions; or when this is not possible, it permits to propose suitable regulation frameworks. Further specific markets situations will be assessed and discussed using the reference model suitably modified to take account of local peculiarities.
