Abstract
The rapid growth of the Land Mobile Radio Service and the demand for more sophisticated mobile radio systems, has created an urgent need for radio spectrum in order to accommodate future expansion of the service. Consequently, the U.K. Government decided that, from the beginning of 1985, television broadcasting would cease in Bands I and III and these bands would be used to provide for the future growth of pmr services. The processes involved in planning the use of the new band are described, with particular emphasis on the problems of sharing with television broadcasting in other Western European countries.
