EMC consideration for control signal in high voltage substation

Control of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is an increasingly necessary discipline in these days of encroaching technology even where there are no laws or regulations on EMC. Control of EMC is still needed for the financial benefit of both suppliers and users. EMC techniques need to be employed from the very beginning of a project (even at the project specification and tendering stages) to achieve the greatest benefits and lowest risks. During operation of switchgear in high voltage substation traveling waves on the busbar are at the origin of very fast transient voltages (VFT) with short rise time [1, 2].
