Abstract :
Soft decision decoding offers the possibility of correcting data errors beyond the hard decision capability of a code. The application of soft decision decoding to the mobile radio data channel has been investigated. The performance of random error and burst error correcting algorithms on a Rayleigh fading channel has been measured. It is shown that the increased error correction capability can be realised and that useful performance improvements are gained.
