Abstract :
The paper presents the research of the risk of surge arrester failure due to the exceeding energy absorption capability when stressed by lightning overvoltages. The influence of the number of overhead lines connected to substation on the surge arrester failure rate is analyzed. The influence of tower footing impedance and energy absorption capability on surge arrester failure rate are investigated
