Abstract
When designing an authoring system, the choice of graphics model has a strong impact on the type of environment produced. A poor choice of model can result in a system that is hard to understand and which is limited in power and extensibility. We propose containment as the one and only mechanism upon which an authoring system´s graphics model should be built. The containment based model subsumes all other models and yields a system which is easy to use and fully extensible.
