Background acoustic noise reduction in mobile telephony

This paper discusses the problem of background acoustic noise in mobile telephony. The background acoustic noise inside the cabin of a car is analysed, and some experimental results are presented. The analysis includes a characterization of the various sources of background noise. Different methods for reducing the background acoustic noise at the transmitter are presented. The methods are based on adaptive filtering techniques. Finally, some design considerations are discussed; such as the filter configuration and the adaptation algorithm along with some preliminary results.
