Deregulation and opening of the electricity market in France

Pursuant to the law n°2004–803 dated august 9^th 2004, the French eligible market opened to competition in 2000 was extended to all non household customers from July 1^st 2004 on. The aim of this paper is to provide an update on the recent regulatory changes, that were required to implement this extension. It also underline the scope of the changes for distribution system operators in France. It also gives an insight on the change of legal status of Electricité de France.
