Abstract :
One measure of success in the implementation of cellular mobile radio service is the ability to quickly add new cell sites to an existing system. Whether the need for an additional site arises from a desire to expand geographical coverage or a requirement to increase call carrying capacity, the demand is usually urgent. Nevertheless, once the need is identified and permitted use of the proposed site is obtained, many months are required before the cell site is available for commercial service. This period represents a lost opportunity for revenue. The Portable Cell Site was designed, developed, and implemented to take advantage of this window of opportunity by reducing the interval from permitted use to commercial service to a matter of days instead of months.
