Abstract :
The author discusses an object-oriented information model for configuration management of network switching elements, using the OSI (open systems interconnection) tools recommended by the standards bodies. Emphasis is placed on the application of object-oriented modeling techniques to describe an external view of the management information base contained within a network switching element. An example of an information model of managed object classes representing concurrent ISDN (integrated services digital network) and POTS (plain old telephone system) subscriber services is presented. These objects are managed by an operations system via an OSI interface using the services of the CMISE (common management information service element). The model is defined in terms of the modeling tools of inheritance, containment, and association
