Abstract
In this paper aspects of the signal reduction of partial discharge signals in gas insulated substations are discussed. Several examples are used to point out the problems on signal reduction. This discussion is important for the determination of the 5 pC sensitivity of the couplers located anywhere in the substation. It is shown that the signal reduction between two couplers may be influenced by the repetition rate of PD pulses, small differences in the GIS configuration and type of GIS components
