Abstract :
Several companies, including Texas Instruments, are recognizing the strong compatibility between existing design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM/A) principles and the goals and practices of design for the environment (DFE). Leveraging off the commonalities of DFM/A and DFE, these companies are achieving gains not only in the the environmental characteristics of their products and processes, but also reductions in development and production cycle time, product defect levels, and in product life cycle costs. This strategy of mutually optimizing manufacturability and environmental considerations during design has resulted in a “win-win” situation for all stakeholders
