Abstract :
The interest in the road traffic field has lead to research which aims to manage the actual state and future evolutions of road traffic. The intelligent vehicle highway systems (IVHS) project is the selected approach in the USA. This paper presents a point of view on the management of road traffic using multiagent systems concepts. Multiagent system approaches applied to the management of complex projects in a “divide and conquer” manner have been outlined by many authors. In this paper, we show that the IVHS project can in fact be perceived as a multiagent system. Finally, the advantages of this approach applied to the specific case of the IVHS are underlined
