Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Power sources, based on power-consuming and high-power magneto-cumulative generators, are effective tools for investigations of the electric parameters change of protecting grounding electrodes with lightning discharge effect. Calculations show that using a power source, based on the existing cascade generator MCG-320 with a high-voltage transformer unit, it is possible to perform investigations of soil parameters in a wide range of conductivity changes. These power sources allow the electrical characteristics to be determined of different protecting grounding electrodes. An investigation performance using such power sources allows the verification of experimental results, obtained at separate soils types at current pulses of 20-30 kA amplitude, and to determine the behavior rules of protecting grounding electrodes at current pulse effects, which are close enough to the parameters of the lightning current pulses. Experimental results on the reproduction of the current pulse of a lightning discharge of positive lightning with the amplitude of 90 kA on a lightning rod using a MCG based power source are presented.
