Abstract :
Industrial battery market segments are generally fall into two major categories−traction batteries, also called motive power batteries, and stationary batteries, also referred to as standby power batteries. The author briefly discusses the major subcategories of these two market segments. he author then discusses various aspects of the markets for these batteries including: trends in US battery production, US producer price indexes, and trends in Japanese and European battery production. The author then discusses valve regulated Pb-acid batteries and compares them with flooded Pb-acid batteries. Failure modes for valve regulated Pb-acid batteries and market penetration of this type of battery are discussed. The gives a forecast for industrial battery production.<>
