fYear :
2015
Abstract :
The 7th International Workshop on Science Gateways (IWSG 2015) was held in Budapest June 3???5, 2015. Researchers and scientists from various scientific domains and experts in portal and workflow technologies gathered to discuss the current state of the art, significant issues, and related solutions. Significant effort and discussion was devoted to shaping the future directions of this field of research and to find new ways to foster the adoption of portals to new and wider scientific communities. Around 30 participants from more than ten different countries gathered during IWSG 2015; there were 22 submissions, consisting of 14 full papers and 8 abstracts. Accepted full papers resulted in 25-minute presentations and abstracts in lightning talks of 15 minutes. The accepted full papers have been published in these proceedings; the abstracts will be published on the workshop website. Additionally, the workshop featured three high-profile keynotes and an outstanding panel discussion on "Future Challenges in Developing Gateways." The papers reflect current trends in the area of science gateways and the topics discussed can be broadly categorized in three areas: theoretical investigation of the portals, generic tools and approaches, and specific portals. It is obvious from the papers that the uptake of existing technologies and their adaptation or extension for use with cutting-edge underlying infrastructures are key topics. The high number of papers concerned with use cases is very much appreciated and elucidates that science gateways are used for their intended purpose: to conduct science.
