Abstract :
Turbo coding has recently been chosen as a channel coding standard for third-generation wireless high-speed data services. A turbo decoder consumes a large amount of energy due to its iterative decoding feature. This paper presents a new dynamic-iterative technique that reduces the number of decoding iterations of turbo decoders for both improved and distorted channel conditions. When applying the proposed technique to the turbo decoder at the system level, a 30-40% reduction in the number of iterations is observed compared to the static-iterative case. Also, the iteration reduction given by the new method is superior to the current low-complexity dynamic-iterative methods.
