Abstract
Metropolitan area networks are seen as backbones to local area networks interconnection. This will provide high speed integrated services to the user. We will briefly discuss the connection-oriented DQDB architecture, its internetworking with ATM, and the support of integrated services. We introduce the “sensitivity” of a connection, and show how it affects the required capacity with changing rates. We propose, QoS management layer (as a part of the management plane), in the connection-oriented DQDB which is responsible for mapping the QoS requirements and allocating resources dynamically. This is very attractive, particularly for “integrated-services” support
